Barranco Hondo Historic Site

Visit a large troglodyte settlement with cave dwellings and artificial terraces, located near a rich aquifer and a pine forest.
It is one of the largest troglodyte settlements in Gran Canaria, extending along the Barranco Hondo ravine from the Montaña de Los Moriscos. This troglodyte cultural landscape has dwelling caves and artificial terraces that are evidence of its historical importance. Until the mid-20th century, it was one of the largest inhabited troglodyte settlements in the highlands of the island. The concentration of population was due to the fortified topography, the wealth of water resources and the proximity to the Tamadaba pine forest. Despite challenges such as the construction of dams and the uncontrolled exploitation of the aquifer, it remains an invaluable testimony to the troglodyte cultural landscape of Gran Canaria.
